Metal epoxy putty, 55 g

Two-component cold weld, 55 g
SAFE FOR PAINTWORK
CHEMICAL-RESISTANT
SETS IN 45 MIN
WITHSTANDS −60 °C TO +150 °C

NANOPROTECH Metal epoxy putty is a two-component, plasticine-like cold weld for repairing, sealing and rebuilding missing fragments of parts made of steel, including stainless steel, aluminium and brass. Knead it by hand until the colour is uniform: it sets in 45 minutes, and after 2.5 hours the repair can be sanded, drilled, loaded and painted. Once cured, it resists chemical reagents and temperatures from −60 °C to +150 °C.

The 55 g stick is used in portions: cut off at least 1/3 for each repair and keep the rest in a dry, dark place at no more than +35 °C.

What you can repair with this cold weld for metal

  • Leak repair in metal pipes, taps and heating radiators — with the water shut off and the pressure released; in pressurised systems this is a temporary repair until the section is replaced. Drinking water pipes are not repaired with it.
  • Car parts; a metal fuel tank or radiator only as a temporary repair from the outside, with the part emptied and cooled. Not for the silencer or exhaust system: in use they get hotter than +150 °C.
  • Missing fragments of metal parts: shape the putty in place and machine it once cured.
  • Threads: the putty can be used to form a thread.
  • Tools, garden and sports equipment, fittings.
  • Kitchen utensils, except surfaces that come into contact with food.

Properties of the heat-resistant epoxy putty

  • Two components kneaded by hand — wet fingers are fine — until the colour is uniform.
  • Sets in 45 minutes; when bonding, press the parts together and hold them for 15 minutes.
  • After 2.5 hours the joint can be loaded, sanded, drilled and painted.
  • Resists temperature changes and chemical reagents.
  • Safe for paintwork.
  • Grips wet and oily surfaces when smoothed on until it sticks; on oily surfaces the bond strength is 20% lower.

Which metals it bonds

Steel, including stainless steel, brass and aluminium, so it also works for aluminium repair. The putty is based on epoxy resin with an amine hardener and contains iron powder.

Questions and answers

How long does the cold weld take to cure?

It sets in 45 minutes, and after 2.5 hours the joint can be sanded, drilled, loaded and painted. When bonding parts, press them together and hold them for 15 minutes.

What temperature can the repair withstand?

From −60 °C to +150 °C. The cured putty also resists temperature changes and chemical reagents, so it suits radiators, taps and car parts that work within this range.

Can I fix a leak on a wet or oily surface?

Yes, once the water has been shut off: keep smoothing the putty onto the surface until it grips. A leak under pressure cannot be sealed this way. On oily surfaces the bond strength drops by 20%, so degrease the area whenever possible.

What if the stick has hardened on the outside?

Warm it to +60 °C for about 10 minutes — in hot water, on a radiator or on top of the engine. This can happen in storage or after sharp temperature changes; once warmed, the putty becomes pliable again.

Can it be used to repair cookware?

Not on surfaces that touch food — the safety instructions rule this out. Kitchen utensils can be repaired only where the putty will not come into contact with food.

Recommendation for use

1. Clean dirt and rust off the surfaces, sand them with coarse sandpaper, degrease and let dry.
2. Cut off at least 1/3 of the stick and knead both components thoroughly with your fingers (they may be wet) until the colour is uniform.
3. Apply the mixture to the surface being repaired. When bonding parts, apply the putty to both surfaces, press them together and hold for 15 minutes.
4. On wet and oily surfaces, smooth the mixture until it adheres to the surface (on oily surfaces, bond strength is 20% lower).
5. To smooth the repaired surface and give it the required shape, use flat objects moistened with water.
6. Once the compound has hardened (after 2.5 hours), the joint can be machined (sanded), loaded and, if necessary, painted.

Composition

Epoxy-diane resin up to 20%, amine hardener up to 8%, plasticizer up to 1%, curing accelerator up to 0.1%, kaolin up to 10%, chalk up to 50%, silicon dioxide up to 2%, iron powder up to 10%.

Service and shelf life

Store in a dry, dark place at no higher than +35 °C. Dispose of as household waste. Shelf life: 18 months. If the outer layer of the compound has hardened during storage or after sharp temperature changes, warm the cold weld to +60 °C for 10 minutes, for example in hot water, on a radiator or on the top cover of a car engine.

Safety measures

Avoid getting the components in your eyes. Wearing protective gloves is recommended. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with water and seek medical advice. Do not use on surfaces that come into contact with food. Keep out of the reach of children.
